Always Ballin’ is one of the best up and coming basketball brands out there right now and just in time for London Olympics, they have launched the #BE PROUD campaign.
Upon the release of the poster (right) it had a hell of an impact on social media. Ballers around the UK felt the collective chord struck as we acknowledged that despite some of the…you know what? I’ll let them explain:
Be Proud to be a UK basketball Player.
UK basketball has been ignored for too long.
Poor funding, Poor facilities, Poor coaching, poor media coverage are just a few reasons basketball doesn’t get the exposure and participation it deserves in the UK.
This summer Team GB are playing on the world’s biggest stage in the London Olympics, this is the first time this has happened since 1948.
We therefore, have an opportunity to show the world that basketball in the UK not only exists but is booming and is worth them sitting up and taking notice.
However they will not see what is here if we do not show them. So it is down to us as UK ball players and fans to show who we are and represent our sport when the world is watching.
In order to give a platform for this idea we are launching a campaign in association with GB Basketball Supporters Club simply called #BeProud. The campaigns mission is to give a forum and focus to UK ballers to show their pride in UK basketball and be seen by as many people as possible. The ultimate goal being that we will put this in front of the nation and the world and participation will go up and with that money, facilities and coverage will follow. We also aim to put this in front of the governing bodies of Basketball and sport in general to show them Basketball needs their attention and support.
The Logo
The logo we’ve developed as a symbol for this campaign is based on the integration of basketball and the union jack. The colours make an obvious connection to British Sport, the integration of different shapes represent that we are a diverse and multi-cultural nation and the overall ball shape that we unite as a whole for this game. The worn, textured feel is a nod towards the urban roots of basketball, and represents what we endure for the game we love.
All we ask you to do to support this campaign is spread the word and let people know you are a UK baller and proud. We will be running our Facebook and twitter pages as an interactive platform for this campaign and ask you to share, like and retweet your support as well as use our FB and twitter pages to post your own ways of supporting this message. GB Bas If we can make this message go viral then we cannot be ignored and the improvements we’ve be desperate for will finally get recognised.
You may ask why UK basketball and not GB? Well, We want to include all the home nations in this campaign, we are in it together we all have the same issue and ultimately the same goal to build the game we all love to the force it deserves to be.
The campaign will be running from now right through to the end of the Paralympics. During this time we will be putting out posters and flyers to illustrate the campaign and widen the network supporting our message. We will be releasing a range of tees and hoodies for UK ballers to represent and spread the message along with running competitions and giveaways during the period encouraging ballers to show their pride. The most creative way in which people spread the word will win!
If you believe in UK basketball and want to see it realise it’s potential in this country please join us this summer. #BeProud
